The Theory Of Evidence Based Design And Its Application In Health Care Architectures In China

As a high-tech, and complicated architecture type, health care architecture isconnected to the living, reproduction, maintaining health, fighting disease, and all theother procedure of human life. As the improvement of medical technology and thereformation of the health care system in China, the hospital architecture developmentis at an unprecedented speed. However, because of the large scale and shortconstruction period, a great amout of problems emerged in China. Therefore, a moreeffective and reliable hospital design model is needed.Evidence-Based Design is based on evidence based medicine and environmentalpsychology. It focuses on scientific research method and statistical data to prove thepositive effect of architecture environment. After30years of development, evidencebased design theory is growing mature, and it has leaded numerous successfulhospital design cases.This article first reviews the development of evidence based design in the U.S.and Europe, introduces its methods and procedures, and analyses its application inhealth care architecture. Then, it explains the current theory in hospital design inChina, and their connection to evidence based design, identify the potential toimplement evidence based design in China. At last, it analyses how to apply evidencebased design in China, and the challenges, difficulties and suggestions.This article analyses questions from theory to practice from a scientific andpositive standpoint through investigation of literature and history, survey andinformation collection, discussion with professionals, and cases analysis.The core of evidence based design is also the focus of health care architecturedesign in China, and some concepts of evidence based design have already beenaccepted by Chinese designers, patients and care givers. However there are still manydifferent between the hospital design issues of China and western countries. After aperiod of problem solving and experience gaining, the theory of evidence baseddesign will flourish in China.
