Rubber tyred container gantry crane is special equipment in big containerterminal yard all over the world. It has characteristics of low investment cost,flexible operation, convenient installment and other advantages. It is widely usedand welcomed by container dock.However, the power source is diesel generator in traditional rubber tyredcontainer gantry crane. Energy conversion efficiency is low. Energy consumptionand the cost is high. This seriously limites application of the rubber-tyred containergantry crane.Toward the disadvantages of the traditional gantry crane, a hybrid powersystem is designed with supercapacitor as the energy storage device added to thecrane electric drive system. Part of energy exhausted on the brake resistor are storedin supercapacitors and resused to power motor afterward. This decreases energyconsumption.Energy transfer procedure and loss of traditional tyre crane are analyzed.Based on it, energy-saving scheme of tired crane is put forward. Hybrid powersystem simulation model is established of analyzed.Charge and discharge characteristics of super capacitor are analyzed.Efficiency features are presented. Super capacitor connected modes are compared.The parameters are matched,.And economy of super capacitors configuration areanalyzed.According to the requirements of the system, and comparison of the DC/DCconverter with different topology are made. Bidirectional Buck-Boost circuit isdetermine as the main circuit structure. Hardware and software of DC/DC converterare analyzed and designed. Experiment are made verify the design.System control strategy is presented according to the hybrid power systemenergy storage and utilization. A bidirectional DC/DC converter control strategy ismade to reduce shock diesel generator sets caused by the frequent acceleration anddeceleration. Simulation results show that the proposed control strategy is feasible.
