TLD is one of passive control devices and has been research hot pot in the field ofcivil engineering in recent years because of its advantage of easy installation and mutiplepurposes. Based on the vibration reduction mechanism of TLD,we establish athree-dimensional fluid-structure coupling model through finite element method in thisarticle,discussing the three-dimensional nonlinear liquid sloshing effects of TLD tank onvibration control of high-rise buildings and providing theoretical basis for practicalapplication of TLD. The main contents and conclusions of this subject are as follows:The fluid-structure coupling analytical method is able to reflect nonlinearcharacteristics of water in TLD tank. Establishing two-dimensional fluid-structure couplingmodel and three-dimensional fluid-structure coupling model respectively and analyzing thecalculation results under these two models,the results show that the vibration damping rateof the top floor displacement under three-dimensional fluid-structure coupling model isdifferent from that under two-dimensional model within2%~5%. The three-dimentionalfluid-structure is closer to the truth and the simulation results are more accurate.Studying vibration rules of structures under bi-directional seismic waves and thosewith irregular and asymmetric plan. The simulation results show that the displacementresponse of structures under horizontal two-way seismic waves gets linear additivitygeometrically.Furthermore, the displacement response of smaller stiffness is stronger thanthat of larger stiffness.Besides,TLD has obvious effects on structures with irregular andasymmetric plan and the torsional vibration reduction rate is up to30%or more.Introducing technology of TLD during anti-vibration design of the Private EconomicDevelopment Center in Baotou and then transforming high-rise fire water tank into TLDdevice and studying the vibration-reduction effectiveness. The simulation results indicatethat the vibration reduction rate of top-floor displacement could reach at least10%and20%around when seismic predominant period is close to the fundamental natural period ofstructures.The damping force of TLD not only offsets base shear caused by the massitself,but also reduces base shear furtherly, the decreasing range is30%around.
