Product cognitive friction is a kind of users’ barrier which is derive from variety ofcognition. With a high level integration of product muti-function and diversity ofconsumers’ cognitive perspective, the barrier become complicated and difficult to overcomeobstacles with increasing trend, resulting in the generation of cognitive friction. Cognitivefriction in Hand-held measuring devices not only have negative influences on themeasurement results and accuracy of data, but also may have an impact on design analysis,may also cause serious accidents. Above all the contributing factors, product cognitivefriction is supposed to have an in-depth and detailed research by designers.To make sure the user manipulate hand-held measurement equipments with betteroperability and safety, this paper takes cognitive psychology and product semantics as thetheoretical basis to investigate the cognitive friction of devices in depth research andanalysis. First, the author used the knowledge of cognitive psychology to analysis theprocess of human perception, awareness and identify. The aim is hunting a theoretical basisfor the structure of cognitive friction in psychology. Secondly, through product semanticstheory, the author analyze the forming process of psychological perception, looking forreasons for cognitive friction of measurement equipments. Then, using perceptual cognitivefriction as the starting point in the form of engineering analysis and semantic differentialmethod for its shape design modeled by analysis, and make prediction and validation formodeling of product semantics. Finally, with taking electronic light meter as an example,the author compare a lot of groups forecast predicted data and modify quite different part(cognitive friction), to reach the ultimate goal of reducing product cognitive friction andimproving users’ experience.All in all, through the cognitive friction research of hand-held measuring equipment,the users’ experience on the measurement has positive significant influence: reducing thecognitive friction not only can reduce the user’s physical fatigue and the probability oferroneous operation effectively, but also can improve their efficiency in work. It is also ableto provide a positive experience for the user, so that they can engage their full of energy intheir routine lives. It is significant that this paper can actually reduce cognitive friction ofmanipulate hand-held measurement equipments for personnel and general consumers.
