With rapid development of science and technology,functions and systems of modern products become more and more complex,and ‘black box' phenomenon has become more and more common during use of products.Compared with traditional products in industrial times which are mainly based on mechanical operation,modern products have become more complicated,and they are prone to meet obstacles in product use.They even make users feel overwhelmed in process of use.This phenomenon is called cognitive friction between user and products in design area.By adjusting cognition friction,comprehensibility of products,effectiveness of information exchange,and operational efficiency of products can be improved,thereby improving usability of products.Thus,users can avoid occurrence of emotions such as confused,puzzled,and irritable mood in use of products.User experience to product can be improved in this way.In this study,Firstly,concept of cognitive friction was elaborated,and differences between similar concepts such as cognitive friction and cognitive differences,cognitive load and misoperation were clarified;and characteristics such as universality,dual character,adjustability and measurability of cognitive friction were analyzed.It put forward that cognition friction in evaluation product interface was mainly reflected in both product availability and user experience.Secondly,according to relationship among three models of user model,design model,and system representation,causes of cognitive friction were explored,which could be divided into three categories: inner cause,explicit cause,and support cause.Inner causes,explicit causes were identified as key factors of research.Thirdly,based on analysis of causes of cognitive friction,this paper proposed a strategy of cognitive friction adjustment from three aspects of user requirements,interaction processes and interaction methods,and proposed a product interface design flow based on cognitive friction adjustment.Fourthly,design practice is based on operation interface of high speed blender,and cognitive friction evaluation is performed on product interface before and after improvement to verify whether cognitive friction adjustment strategy can effectively regulate degree of product cognition friction and achieve product improvement,thus achieve goal of improve product availability and user's experience.From theoretical aspect,this study further clarified concept of cognitive friction,analyzed causes of cognitive friction,and proposed a cognitive friction adjustment strategy and a design flow based on cognitive friction adjustment?In terms of design practice,through improvement in design of machine interface,we verify rationality and feasibility of related research,and further improves cognitive friction theory and provides references for interface design of similar products.
