RP technology is developed in the late ninety’s, a manufacturing technology for manufacturing enterprises a key technology of new product development services. To promote the enterprise product innovation, shorten new product development cycle and cost, optimize the product design process and enhance the competitiveness of their products have a positive role in promoting. Since the advent of the technology in developed countries has been widely applied in manufacturing, and driven by its produce an emerging technology. FDM as a kind of rapid prototyping technology, environmental safety, the craft is simple in operation and the advantages of cheap raw materials, is very beneficial to promote in the family.STL format file for 3 d model interface, generate visual modeling method of the STL files is presented. Using Visual C++ programming language, Visual Studio 2010 as the development environment, using open source, cross-platform, cross-language professional graphics program interface OpenGL, developed can read display, and perform basic graphics operations of STL data model of the system, the system provides the STL layered process visualization support.In spite of rapid prototyping technology are diverse, model of two-dimensional contour data obtained is the first step in the rapid prototyping manufacturing, so in the slice method based on STL model analysis and absorb the advantage of the existing algorithm, is proposed to calculate the node storing, reusing grouping sorting, inherit the topological hierarchical algorithm. Incremental method is used to quickly calculate the intersection point, the algorithm group to establish a relationship matrix and update with cut layer thickness to cut piece, through inheritance the topology of the upper quickly generate slice profile data. Through the actual example shows that the algorithm is efficient and stable.Before getting 2-D contour data, also involves other algorithms, such as add, supported by choosing slice direction caused by the rotation of the model; in two-dimensional profile data, also need the data post-processing, such as redundant data removal, contour filling algorithm, etc. After getting the outline of the data, in order to improve the accuracy of machining, puts forward the idea of contour fitting of data points.Last for more than two years of research work and achievements are summarized, points out existing problems in the current, and can be further in the future research direction was prospected.
