With the development of China, urbanization has become the main trend of urban development, so the surging urban population has brought rapid economic development, and urban vehicle population also is growing exponentially, travel demand is also increasing fastly, which makes the traffic congestion has become the most popular means of transport problems in developing countries around the world.So find a way to ease urban traffic congestion has become a pressure currently urgent traffic problems to be solved. However, due to the scale of urban development and urban road construction irreversibility, and urban land limited, which limited to bulid new urban roads for growing traffic demand, so how to find an effective way to relieve congestion become the key of urban development.This paper presents a method based on multicommodity flow for urban road congestion diversion, which mainly to be divided into different traffic flow varieties of traffic congested road based on start and end points (Original-Destination). Without affecting the rest of the road running and againsting the principle of the shortest detour distance, this paper divide part of the flows which are on the road to another road, in order to ease traffic pressure congested roads. Firstly, through the causes of urban road congestion and features which laid the theoretical foundation for this paper, and then by analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of the more commonly used road congestion identification method, I select the target system method for this paper; then by comparing a single commodity and multicommodity flow stream flow problem and study the traditional mathematical models of multicommodity flow the problem, propose to mean what is multicommodity flow problem.Combined with multicommodity flow relate with urban road traffic flow, and analyzes the correlation between the two drifferent types flow, whereby the multicommodity flow problem used in urban road congestion is feasible; then analysis the traffic flow of congested roads, and to get the start and end sections of the traffic flow, and further proposed method of urban road congestion varieties divided flow, and numbered the network traffic flow and congested roads traffic flow. Finally this paper based on the shortest path algorithm and Ford-Fulkerson algorithm to design the traffic congestion diversion program, and a numerical example demonstrates the feasibility of the method, then prove the validity of the method by VISSIM simulation.
