In the 1740s, a building design movement was born in Britain, which with a theme of the medieval gothic revival style, known as the Gothic Revival. Built in 1749 of Strawberry Hill is considered to be the starting point of this movement, and marked by the reconstruction of the British parliament at Westminster palace reached the climax of movement. In the specific social and historical background, the gothic revival architecture form is endowed with evoke a sense of national identity and fight for freedom and democracy and political significance, movement spread from Britain to Germany, France and spread to eastern Europe and North America; As countries such as Britain and France’s colonial expansion abroad, missionaries also in places such as Australia, New Zealand, India, China, built a lot of gothic church. This gothic revival become a worldwide trend of building, and has a certain influence and at the end of the 19th century inspired the birth of the British arts and crafts movement.This paper will focus on the cause of the gothic revival movement, course, combing the gothic revival architecture design concepts in the theory, and analyze the connotation of the gothic revival architecture of high aesthetic value, to explore the gothic revival movement for the British arts and crafts movement and after several times the impact of architectural design movement.
