With the rapid development of contemporary science and technology, every industry and field in the society is moving toward a high degree of automation, high degree of real-time performance and high precision in the direction of development. As an important measurement in many national product fields (mineral, food storage, scattered heap, etc.).Volume measurement also gradually abandons traditional time-comsuming artificial measurement.This paper proposed solutions mainly for volume measurement of raw meal and clinker in cement mill.As an important part of the cement factory, raw meal and clinker storage directly affects future planning of the enterprise. So, the design of a set of measuring scheme has very high practical significance. One of the key technology of heap measurement is the measurement of distance. In this proposal, laser distance measurement, a method with high precision and anti-interference is adopted. Laser rangefinder is installed to three self-developed ballheads, which are located at the top of the warehouse symmetrically. They perform 3-D scanning and calculate volume of materials in PC endpoints through STM32 micro-controller and its peripherals. Collected data and related information are stored into database for the convenience of real-time monitoring by staff. MySql database in chosen as storage for the huge size of data and monitor staff can check interested Volume information through database monitor software coded by QT by using time and number of warehouse as filter. The main part of this proposal is already realized with the accomplishment of related transportation system and data monitoring system. However, it is difficult to do real test in lab because of the complex of the real environment and the building of the whole system. Neither can this be done in field because cement mill cannot shut down the production line for us to install the test equipment. For now, MATLAB is used to simulate the measurement precision of volume. Taking into consideration of theoretical and real margin, the accuracy of the measurement can reach 95%, which satisfies the need of cement mill.
