Study On The Conservation And Development Of Malan Traditional Village In Beijing

Traditional village is an important part of Chinese historical and cultural heritage. With the rapid progress of urbanization and development of rural areas, traditional village and culture are under intense impact. Awarded as a Chinese Traditional Village in 2013, Malan village has been specially investigated by the author. Malan village, established centuries ago, have a memorable war history during World War II. The conflicts between conservation and development in Malan are prominently displayed in Malan, which is also at its critical period of waiting for reformation. According to the comprehensive analysis over the aspects including the characteristic value, present situation and problems of Malan village, a thorough study has been made, emphasizing on the factors including the relationship, content and countermeasure of conservation and development. It is anticipated that this study would establish a useful guidance for the future strategy concerning the conservation and development of Malan village, while providing reference for the same type of traditional villages.The Paper is divided into seven chapters. Chapter one is the introduction to the research background, objectives and significance, contents and methodology of the research. It also includes a brief introduction of basic concepts and research status at home and abroad. Chapter two first introduces the general situation and historical evolution of Malan Village. The features of the village have been systematically analyzed subsequently and values of the village are also evaluated. Chapter three analyses the present situations of conservation and development of Malan village, after which the existing problems are discussed. Chapter four first compares and analyses the conservation and development of traditional villages in Zhaitang Town. Then it summarizes the mode of conservation and development of traditional village and puts forward a suitable mode for Malan village. Chapter five discusses the strategies and measures of conservation under the direction of overall and dynamic protection, after which it illustrates strategies and measures. Then it elaborates the countermeasure to strengthen the conservation of traditional villages. Chapter six discusses the strategy and development path of Malan village. According to the analysis of development opportunities, it proposes the development path of sustainable conservation priority. Then it elaborates the countermeasures to combine conservation and development under the balance. The last chapter is the conclusion, sums up the results of the research.The main innovation point of the paper is the study on the existing problems and mode of conservation and development. It points out that traditional villages should return to essential attribute and discusses the existing problems in three levels- the transformation of traditional village under urbanization background, the constraints of the new socialist countryside construction, the relationship between conservation and development of transitional village. Then it puts forward the “Community Empowerment”, a community-driven mode, which is suitable for local condition of Malan village. On conservation it illustrates strategy of participatory protection. On development it suggests establishing a mechanism for the aboriginal reflux and elaborates the countermeasures to combine conservation and development under the balance.
