In recent years, China’s urban rail transit construction has entered a period of rapid development,huge urban rail transit vehicles are needed in China.The aluminum carbody was designed using lightweight modular design concept with all welded construction of the large hollow section aluminum extrusions.This carbody could reduce the number of parts and welding work,vehicle lost weight significantly.It’s better to energy consumption and maintenance costs.Based on a great deal of the relevant technical documentation,the structural characteristics of rail vehicle and the performance requirements of key bearing parts were analyzed according to the actual running situation and bearing capacity of urban rail transit vehicles.Using lightweight method and modular method completed the overall structural design of rail vehicles with Pro/E software.And the performance characteristics of different materials was explored.The physical and mechanical properties of aluminum alloy which the carbody design selected was analyzed in particular. On this basis,a reasonably simplified finite element model was built.The static strength and modal of carbody was calculated by ANSYS software in different working conditions.After the trial was completed,the tests of static strength was carried out according to design Standards.Experimental data show that the stress were lower than allowable stress of the selected material in each of the static strength conditions.So strength and stiffness of the body were to meet the requirements.The carbody can be mass-produced.
