In recent years, affected by the slow recovery of the global economy and trade and growing liner transport capacity, Liner transport market continues its downward. The supply of liner transport capacity exceeds demand leading a serious situation of excess. In order to cope with the difficulties, liner companies strengthen cooperation through the sharing of resources, joint operation and other ways. Setting up liner alliance can complement each other and play the overall advantages. Each liner company can reduce individual risk and operating costs, seek win-win in cooperation through liner alliance.Empty container repositioning is a dynamic and discrete process, involving a variety of modes of transport. This paper researched the sea empty container repositioning from the perspective of the liner alliance basing on the analysis of the process of the empty container repositioning. Liner companies in liner alliance distributed their empty containers cooperatively through empty container mutual renting and slot mutual chartering. In this paper, the modeling process fully considered the deterministic and stochastic empty containers empty container reposition demand of each liner companies at different times in different ports.which conformed with the dynamic and stochastic characteristics of empty container reposition, making the model closer to reality. Finally, The example verifies that the model are effective and feasible. Empty container reposition scheme obtained by solving model will provide a basis for the liner alliance’s decision making.
