As an important part of power transmission and distribution system, smart substation has become a new trend of the future substation with the intelligent technology make a spurt of progress. In order to realize the IED’s inter operation and information sharing, the International Electrotechnical Commission formulated IEC61850 《communication networks and systems in substations》 series of standards (here and following referred to as the IEC61850 standard), this standard has become the only international standard in substation automation field. Electronic voltage/current transformer, optical fiber, merging unit, circuit breaker intelligent terminal and other intelligent equipments have put into use in substation based on IEC61850 standard, and the cable has been replaced by the process layer Ethernet network, which makes communication network technology has become a new way of information sharing and exchange in process level network. Substation whose functions are becoming more and more powerful contains large number of intelligent electronic devices, and huge number of packets transmission in communication network with the operation of those devices. These data contain much information about substation primary system operating parameters and operating status, also implied the health situation and communication condition of secondary equipments. The premise to get and exploit the information of packets is packets parsing. Therefore, the accomplishment of fast and accurate, reliable network packet analysis of smart substation has important implications for packet processing capacity, also improving the ability to monitor and analysis in primary system and the secondary system.Based on the careful study of IEC61850 standard and the structure of the communication system of smart substation, this paper put two important process layer network packets, GOOSE(Generic Object Oriented Substation Event) and SV (sampled value) as the main object of study, also focused on study of specific communication service mapping, packet protocol,transmission mechanism, and data structure of the two kind packets, finally built the network packets analysis procedures that based on information element method. By comparing with the analysis results of same type of software, information element method achieved the analysis of the two types of packet, however, there remain questions about the slow speed of analysis and long waiting time of the user. In order to further improve the analysis speed, this paper put forward the packet parsing method which is based on improved memory pool. This method core idea is reduce the time loss caused by frequently memory application and deletion though operating system by using manage technology of memory pool,also can reduce memory fragmentation effectively, thus greatly accelerate the speed of packet parsing and reduced reaction time.This paper design the overall structure of packet fast analysis program by using Visual C++6.0 development environment, and the structure includes read of data, judgment of packet protocol type and analysis for the two types of packet. Through the analysis of actual data, the validity and rapidity of the proposed method is verified. In addition, added packet data analysis, mainly including the alarm of abnormal information. By comparing between the proposed methods and commercial packet analysis software, we can come to the conclusion:analysis speed of rapid analysis of network packets is greatly increased, and more abundant in content analysis.
