Study On The Landscape Quality Assessment And Recreation For The Typical Urban Forest In Xiamen

The paper chooses Xiamen Xianyue Mountain (City) and Tianzhu Mountain (Surburb) two typical urban forests as research sites. To investigate and analyze the forest community characteristics and the value orientation of urban forest recreation, and take the classification research about the landscape quality of the urban forests with the method of Scenic Beauty Estimation.The purpose is to take advantage of the landscape resources, improve their urban forests’ ornamental value, enhance the service function of urban green spaces and make it better to meet tourists’ demand. This can also provide the theoretical support and reference for scientific and rational development, protection and utilization of urban forests.The main research results are listed below:(1) Through the investigation and analysis on the characteristics of Xianyue Mountain and Tianzhu Mountain’s forest communities, the result shows that the rcihness of Tianzhu Mountain’s forest community is significantly higher than Xianyue Mountain. However, due to some factors like unreasonable stand structure, they all need to do some proper introduction and transformation to lay the foundation of comprehensive improvement of forest landscape quality.(2) By the SBE method,about out-forest landscape,the landscape quality evaluation index for Tianzhu Mountain which is primarily mixed forest and variety in color is up to 83%.While, the landscape quality evaluation index of for Xianyue Mountain which is primarily pure forest, relatively single community structure and lack of changes is only 60%. The numbers show that most of the tourists are fond of out-forest landscape with variation and high diversity.(3) Using the SBE method on in-forest landscape, the landscape quality evaluation index is 60% for Tianzhu Mountain which is composed of schima superba forest. While, the landscape quality evaluation index is only 40% for Xianyue Mountain which is composed of masson pine forest. This shows that most of the recreationists are fond of broad-leaf species which have relatively abundant changes of in-forest landscape. Nevertheless, the landscape quality evaluation index is low for coniferous species which have relatively drab changes. This feeling is particularly outstanding, especially to those with poor growth.(4) Using the SBE method on road landscape, the landscape quality evaluation index is 80% for Tianzhu Mountain, while it is only 40% for Xianyue Mountain. This shows that most of the recreationists have eyes only for the garden path with lush vegetation along the road and full of human relationship design. The road design which fits in better with surrounding natural environment can improve forest landscape quality and make recreationists have better recreative experience and feeling.(5) Using the SBE method on water landscape, the landscape quality evaluation index is only 60% for Tianzhu Mountain. The reason lies in the severe vegetation deterioration around its water, which has great impact on the overall landscape quality and need to be repaired in time. Xianyue Mountain has no water landscape, so we need to strengthen its water landscape construction.(6) For Xianyue Mountain, the average of its overall forest landscape’s standard score is -0.134, the landscape quality evaluation index of its overall forest landscape is 53%. Sorting its forest landscape types by mean value is:out-forest landscape> in-forest landscape> road landscape. The overall quality of its forest landscape still needs to be improved. While for TInazhu Mountain, the average of its overall forest landscape’s standard score is 0.395, the landscape quality evaluation index of its overall forest landscape is 73%. Sorting its forest landscape types by mean value is: out-forest landscape> Road Landscape>in-Forest Landscape> water landscape. Its overall forest landscape quality is relatively good.(7) Recreationists’ best feeling to urban forest recreation are mainly reflected in: rich visual experience of urban forest, abundant stand color outside the forest, multilayer structure with the combination of trees brushes and grasses inside the forest and taking low shrubs as the primary, light and shade staggering inside the forest, more waterside landscape forest inside the forest, various and complete rest space inside the forest, more scientific knowledge and introduction of important tree species inside the forest for recreationists. Through the research about the recreation of Xiamen Xianyue Mountain and Tianzhu Mountain, we make suggestions and measures about the development of landscape quality in out-forest landscape, in-forest landscape, road landscape, water landscape and recreation existing problems five aspects.Research results can provide scientific basis for rational development, utilization and protection of Xiamen Xianyue Mountain and Tianzhu Mountain’s landscape resources, and also can be the reference for the construction of forest landscape in other cities.
