Small hydropower is an important part of the development and utilization of water resources, which has played a huge role in the town’s economic development for the region and the improvement of people’s living standards. But small hydropower mostly are in remote and poor areas, inaccessible, manufacture and installation of mechanical and electrical equipment levels relatively low, lack of operation and management qualified personnel, so the efficiency of hydropower is low and power plant efficiency is not high. In recent years, as computer monitoring systems and integrated automation system installed on small hydropower, which provides a good platform and foundation for small hydropower stations implementing automatically optimal operation, if there is the theoretical support systematic for the optimal operation of small hydropower characteristics, it is perfectly placed to implement a single station switched automatically generated and optimized operation mode automatically.This paper describes the background、research status and research questions of economic operation of hydropower stations firstly, and on this basis to expand research and discussion about the optimization model in plant, the data treatment of conditions to optimize and achieving the economic performance of hydropower automatically implemented under the monitoring platform, including:(1) Using reverse thinking, and through the analysis of water loss caused by the water through penstocks and turbines, if the energy loss in the process of generating is a minimum, the power output is maximum, the minimum energy consumption model of economic operation of hydropower station is established 、evaluated, and gives the method of solving about the model.(2)According to the requirement of hydropower stations economic operation real-time scheduling under the monitoring platform, application of extreme value theory to process the results of the model, that under all the optimal conditions the consumption value and flow make curve fitting, and then in the solution of optimizing internal conditions, can be quickly obtained the optimizationresults; for the problem that optimal conditions of real-time scheduling is not the actual optimal, twice optimization in the stations, to obtain the actual optimal conditions and further explore the generating potential of the power station.(3) Under the monitoring platform, based on the minimum energy consumption model, the automatic implementation of economic operation of hydropower station are described, in which the system coupling are deeply studied.(4)Combined with the engineering example, the calculation results are compared and analyzed between the minimum energy consumption model and the maximum output model, the results of minimum energy consumption model is effective and reliable; the application of extreme value theory on optimizing internal data fitting effect is also very impressive, the results of twice optimization, is to solve the inconsistent problem between the theory and the actual operating conditions, is well practicability; the more humanized human-computer interface based on minimum energy consumption model developed by monitoring platform, the change of characteristic parameters of power station can be reacted when the station is operation optimization of automatic implementation, and to provide reference for management.
