With the development of urbanization in China, more and more villages had been in terminal decay. In order to protect the villages which inherit agricultural civilization, in 2012, three Chinese ministries jointly issued guidance on protecting traditional villages, and establish a list of Chinese traditional villages as the key object to be protected and developed. Meanwhile,Zhejiang province has totaly 176 traditional villages, be located in the third place. In this background, by collecting geographic information of traditional villages in Zhejiang province, and using GoogleEarth, ArcGis10.2 and SPSS 16.0 foundation platform, this paper explore the spatial distribution pattern of Zhejiang traditional villages from four aspects:the horizontal distribution and vertical distribution, traffic characteristics and the association with towns; Classification standard is determined based on the principle of effectiveness and repeatability, making use of remote sensing image to classify and evaluate; Then,Collecting material of villages about years, forming reason, surnames, population, production structure, cultural heritage, natural heritage, summarizing the characteristic of different types of villages on the basis of the material; Then analyzing the type structure and influencing factors;Afterwords we try to study regional differences from two dimensions—— district and county in line of type structure; Finally, based on the results of the mathematical analysis in this paper, we make some thinking and suggestions on protection and development of traditional villages. This paper mainly has the following conclusions:Zhejiang traditional villages (1 Spatial distribution is not balanced, which is obviously centralized distribution, and because of this characteristic, Zhejing can be divided into four agglomeration zones;Vertical space mainly distributed in an altitude of 500 m below;(2) Traditional villages communicate with the rest of the world mainly depend on the general county roads and township roads, village road, and then followed by provincial road, the main county, state road, while the association situation between four accumulation zones and different grade road is different; (3) Mainly distributed in 6-25 km area near county, the effect of outside influence is very small; (4) Can be mainly divided into seven classes:plain towns, coastal fishing village, basin blocky village, vally village, mountain saddle village, hills village and hillside village, each type has its relatively unique landscape features; (5)The overall type structure is given priority to with basin blocky village and hillside village, the reason is thought to be that relatively closed environment delayed the course of farming culture’s recession, the historical origin of seclusion and the historical background of agricultural production demand; (6)The type structure of traditional villages among cities is obviously different, homogeneous characteristic is not obvious; the type structure of traditional villages among counties has obvious clustering characteristics, it can be divided into 15 classes geographically; (7) the protection and development of the traditional villages can make full use of its distribution features and types, targeted, have difference on the overall planning, regional coalition.
