Energy problem, environment pollution problem, oil security problem has become the world’s growing global problems. So looking for clean alternative fuel is a priority urgent affair, and current research of biodiesel, known for its advantages of the green environmental protection, deriving from a wealth of sources, get the favor of experts around the world.This article expounds the types of biodiesel and the development status and trend at home and abroad. Biodiesel research started earlier and deepened researches have done abroad, even some vehicle models have been using biodiesel as fuel; But domestic researches about this part are just starting, there are lots of difficulties and hotspot, such as problems about the biodiesel combustion under extreme environment.Plateau environment is a special ecological environment system, the typical feature is the low atmosphere and low oxygen content. So the low temperature low pressure extreme environment in plateau area and road conditions make driving more strict, it requires a good power performance and economical efficiency, reliable braking efficiency, good start in low temperature and high reliability.Based on Jiangling JX493 diesel engine, according to the different crank shaft angle, this paper compared the combustion and emission characteristics between biodiesel and diesel. The main contents and conclusions include:①Improved the two weakness of biodiesel which was the poor oxidation stability and low temperature fluidity;②In order to improve the combustion performance of mixed fuel, reduce harmful emissions, a new type of additives was found to improve the combustion performance, achieve reducing emissions of harmful substances and energy saving purpose;③Using FIRE software to compare the combustion and emission characteristic between biodiesel and diesel under plateau alpine extreme environment;④In plateau alpine extreme environment, to improve the low temperature fluidity of biodiesel, there are three methods, they are fixing with low freezing point diesel, adding coagulant, and combining the above two ways; The method of improving biodiesel oxidation stability is adding antioxidant;⑤The combustion energy-saving additive H2O2, can improve the combustion performance of mixed fuel, to reduce emissions of harmful substances, and achieve energy saving purpose;⑥For the combustion characteristic, the atomization effect of B10 biodiesel-diesel blended fuel is better than that of diesel;⑦For the emission characteristics, under the plateau alpine environment, while after adding H2O2 has a certain degree of control of NO, but NO emission concentrations of B10 mixed fuel is still higher than that of diesel. However, the soot emission of B10 biodiesel-diesel fixed fuel is much less than that of diesel.
