Because Mountain highways are complex and changeable, the drivers are often in a nervous psychological state in the process of driving. Different landscape colors have different effects on the drivers’ mental activities; on the one hand, it is good for the divers to relieve anxiety and visual fatigue, on the other hand, it can stimulate the drivers to identify the colorful traffic safety signs quickly, which can arouse the divers’ vigilance and avoid accident. From the perspective of the colors and lights of the highway landscape, this paper mainly focuses on the effect of the landscape colors on the safety of mountain highway traffic, making a safety evaluation on the landscape colors around the mountain highways and providing the design reference.In order to have a clear definition of the elements of landscape colors around mountain roads which will be used in this paper, at first, it will show the main elements and classify them. At second, based on the analysis of the basic properties of landscape colors around mountain roads, it will analyze the visual contrast caused by different colors. At then, based on the pyramid theory of color experience, it can get the drivers’ psychological perception by the effect of different landscape colors around mountain roads, which is the basis of analysis of the drivers’ physical and psychological visual error caused by the landscape colors. At last, it will find out the inherent colors of light and objects are the two major factors of affecting color identification. Through the analysis of the drivers’ visual behavioral characteristics and the quantization of the drivers’ visual sensitivity, focus, front sight stadia and view angle, it can get the driver’s visual identification under different speeds. Based on that, it can get the driver’s spatial distance of color identification under ideal condition. And through the clear explanation of the characteristics and colors of light during different time of a day such as morning, noon, evening and night, it can obtain the light during different time periods has strong influence on the landscape colors and it will give some examples of “the devil highway” both at home and abroad. Duo to this reason, it will lead to visual error, which constantly leads to accident. At end, depend on the project-“Wan Hei Road”, the researcher will collect the data of vehicle video and light intensity that comes from the three relate particular time periods including morning, noon and evening. And the researcher does this study in sunny, cloudy and rainy day respectively. And based on the driver’s visual identification, it will analyze the driver’s identification of the landscape color during different time periods and security risks. And selecting the highway linear dangerous point, it will analyze the influence of the changes of highway landscape colors which is caused by the changes of light and driving direction on the drivers and the causes of security risks.Through this study, it can get the driver’s visual identification of landscape colors under the condition of different speed. Depend on the project, it can conclude that the different climates and time periods have influence on the driver’s visual identification of landscape colors and the traffic safety of mountainous highway, which is helpful to make the safety assessment about the landscape colors around mountainous highway and provide the design reference of it.
