In recent years, along with the climate change is increasingly outstanding, the accident of high voltage transmission lines galloping occurs frequently. It is harmful to the power grid. The mechanism theory of high voltage transmission lines galloping is complex. It is destructive and too difficult to prevent. For those reasons, the high voltage transmission lines galloping are internationally recognized as a difficult problem in the field of transmission lines. We can effectively complete the warning of transmission lines galloping so that the staff of SGCC could take measures to reduce the economic loss caused by transmission lines galloping as early as possible through the monitoring of transmission lines galloping. It also can provide the valuable information for the research of transmission lines galloping in theory. Therefore, the research of transmission lines galloping has important significance.In this paper, a transmission lines galloping monitoring system was developed by acceleration sensor, Zigbee network technology and GPRS technique on the comparison of the existing schemes of the transmission lines galloping. The system is mainly composed of data acquisition nodes, the coordinator and PC software. The data acquisition nodes were designed with ADXL345 acceleration sensor and CC2530 module. On the basis of it, the coordinator was designed with W801G GPRS module, CC2530 module and the MCU module. Base on the IAR Embedded Workbench software, Z-stack protocol stack was developed and ported to the acquisition nodes and coordinator. The hardware and software debugging was also completed based on it. The acceleration data of acquisition node was wireless transmitted to the coordinator. The long distance communication between the coordinator and the PC center is available with the GPRS module.The PC monitoring software was written based on the Microsoft Visual C# 2010 Express. Through the PC monitoring software, we can see the connectivity of each node, the network topology structure and the acceleration’s signal. The galloping displacement could be conducted by the quadratic integral of the acceleration data through MATLAB software.Finally, the simulated experiment was conducted in the laboratory. The results showed that the system meets the requirements of the transmission lines galloping monitoring. The system’s design principles are low power consumption and low cost. It also can afford a certain help to the study of the transmission lines galloping and the safe and reliable operation of the power grid.
