Marine diesel engine speed control mainly used for traditional PID control, Nowdays,the conventional PID controller is mainly used in the speed control of marine diesel engine.with the continuous development of the electronic control technology, the advanced control strategies has become the most effective way to improve the performance of diesel engine speed regulation. That the traditional PID controller with relatively simple structure, as well as stable and reliable control performance, but when the load of the control system and the change of model parameters become larger, under the influence of nonlinear factors, the traditional PID controller can’t satisfy the needs of complex practical system well. While the diesel engine speed control system has nonlinear and time-varying characteristics. In order to make the marine diesel engine under any complicated conditions perform well, developing a more advanced PID controller to improve the control performance of diesel engine electronic control system is very meaningful.The fuzzy control theory and neural network control theory are applied to the traditional PID controller in this paper, the fuzzy self-tuning PID controller and the BP neural network PID controller is designed, So that the parameters of the PID controller can be adjusted in real time according to the actual operating state of the control system,thus improving the performance of the control system.This paper use the MATLAB/Simulink software to establish the electronic control system of 4190 type Marine medium-speed diesel engine as a whole simulation model, and the correctness of the model has been verified. The simulation of the electronically controlled speed control system was made with the MATLAB/Simulink software for 4190 diesel engine. Through the analysis of three kinds of controller unit step response, this paper proved that the design of the fuzzy self-tuning PID controller and neural network PID controller can meet the requirements of the diesel engine speed regulation system control. The simulation was conducted separately from the starting, acceleration, deceleration, load mutation and outage, the simulation results show that in the process of starting and stopping, the control effect of fuzzy self-tuning PID controller is superior to the traditional PID controller and the BP neural network PID controller, and in the process of acceleration,deceleration, reduce load and heavy load, the control effect of BP neural network PID controller is superior to the traditional PID controller and fuzzy self-tuning PID controller.
