With the development of SCM (single -chip microprocessor) and control technique,the governor of diesel engine is developing from mechanical governor to electronical governor,many kinds of electronical governor have been developed.Many of these governors adopt traditional PID as control law.The traditional PID controller has many good characters,such as simple structure,high reliability and stability,but it can not satisfy the control requirement at every work condition.Based on the software of MATLAB/SIMULINK, this thesis has developed a system to design and simulate the speed control strategies of diesel engine. First a quasi-linear model of MAN-B&W6S60MC low speed turbocharged diesel engine was built, then traditional control theory such as PID control and fuzzy control were applied. By analyzing the problems that the traditional PID control and fuzzy control algorithm faced, the thought of combining fuzzy logic control with PID control was presented, so an intelligent fuzzy self-tuning PID controller was developed, and the simulation results show the great improvement of the engine control performance, especially to overcome the disturbance(such as the change of load).
