With the rise in car ownership in recent years, traffic congestion, traffic accidents and environmental pollution have become worldwide problems. The VANET(Vehicular ad-hoc network) technology is supposed to be a good solution to these problems. The United States has embarked on the VANET technology research and exploration since 1970s, and launched a series of VANET-related research projects, such as VSC, â…¦ and so on. Following the US the European Union and Japan also made certain findings. In our country, researches in this field started late, but has attracted more and more attentions of experts and scholars.In VANET-related researches, in order to verify the validity of the new technologies, researchers usually need to use computer simulation technology. For the own characteristics of VANET technologies, the simulation experiments must achieve the simulation of both the mobility of vehicles and V2V, V2I communication. Simulations with single simulation software or unreal movement trajectory will cause the loss of the accuracy of the simulation results, and even mislead the evaluation of the VANET technology. Thus the development of VANET simulation platform is very necessary.Through analyzing the existing VANET simulation platforms, we can find that a VANET simulation platfonn must include networking simulation module and road traffic simulation module. Although some VANET simulation platforms have been launched, there are still some deficiencies in simulation accuracy and flexibility. The HLA standard can greatly improve the flexibility and reusability of the simulation platform. In this paper, according to the HLA standard proposed by DMSO(Defense Modeling and Simulation Office), we use VSimRTI to complete the Veins-HLA simulation platform. The platform combines the road traffic simulation software SUMO, the network simulation software OMNeT++ and wireless communication module CCMSim.In order to verify the validity of Veins-HLA simulation platform, we design some experiments to verify the effectiveness of this platform. The results show that Veins-HLA simulation platform can simulate real VANET-related applications, and supports wireless communication standard 802.11p. Meanwhile, in contrast with the existing simulation platform, Veins-HLA simulation platform performs well in simulation time consumption.
