Research On The Creation Of Contemporary Localized Architecture In South Korean

As a "modernity" concept with affection-power in modern language environment, "globalization" has an effects on each aspect of modern life. It reflects a strong modernity, as well as contains increasingly strong materialism value expectation and some characteristics of modern human teleology. With globalization expands rapidly around the world and nations’ culture and confidence rise, the interaction and conflict of world culture and regional culture, two contradictory while interrelated culture, result in a complication of modern architectural creation, leaving unprecedented confusion to many architects and critics. In a macro environment like that, contemporary architects in South Korean focus on the present and further analyze South Korean’s regional culture characteristics. They have initiated plentiful architectural practice and theory study for the localized creation of contemporary architecture in South Korean and gained rich experience.This paper mainly researched the contemporary architecture creation strategy and design method characteristics in South Korean. The author, a Koreans living in China, in advantage of language, studied plenty South Korean literature and took a long-term field survey. Then, much relate materials of contemporary native architectural works of South Korean were collected and analyzed in detail for the summary of creation characteristics of South Korea’s localized architectures. According to the research, there were mainly three features in the creation:attention to the site, tradition interpretation and culture construction.1. Attention to the site:Contemporary architects in South Korea paid attention to the integration of architecture and environment. Integration of architecture, environment, and city and history circumstance could make architecture blend in local environment better.2. Tradition interpretation:Based on the modern interpretation traditional architectural space, form and cultural symbol, the South Korean traditional cultural ideology was inherited and infused into contemporary architecture creation.3. Culture construction:Contemporary architects in South Korean, with local construction of buildings’ skin materials, appropriately used traditional and modern materials, and poetically created with rational construction technology.This paper, with research of the creation concept of contemporary architects in South Korea and a large number of architectural works, concluded localized creation idea, method and characteristics of contemporary architecture in South Korean. This restricted view could help contemporary architects deepen the understanding of design localized architecture and design contemporary architecture with Chinese characteristics.
