Development of the port depends on the depth of the pioneering and development of hinterland economy, expansion of the port hinterland is the power source of port development. For a port, the strength and competitiveness depends on the size of the port throughput, port cargo throughput comes from the number of hinterland traffic, and the flow of goods in the hinterland closely linked with the scope and the economic development of the hinterland. In recent years, as China’s rapid rise and the gravity of shipping center eastward, China’s port and shipping industry has achieved great progress, especially in the aspect of hard power of port, accompanied by inter-port competition increasingly. In order to reduce the vicious competition be-tween ports, optimize capital allocation and social resources, it is necessary to planning and construction the port rationally now. Thus, the port and the economy of hinterland regional can play a greater role in promoting each other、promoting the development of regional economy and social resources to maximize efficiency.Intensified port competition making the factors that affect the port hinterland increasingly diverse, leading to the scope of port hinterland uncertainly. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as a spatial information system, is the world’s most advanced map data mathematical system that can improve the scientific rationality of port hinterland division method, can provide a broad space and strong technical support for the port hinterland division research. This paper focuses on the port hinterland division method itself and its GIS implementation, combined with the shortest path problem with the grid concept study, the introduction of the density of the surface improved HUFF model, eliminating the effects of subjective uncertainty, trying to achieve a combination of geographic information systems and port hinterland divide principles and methods to eliminate the influence of subjective factors in the port hinterland division, it is possible to achieve more scientific port throughput forecast. On the basis of the model, we analysis the hinterland of Dalian Port and Yingkou Port to provide advice for the relevant government departments to promote the development of the port construction work, to avoid waste due to lack of coordination caused by construction.
