Analysis On The Characteristic Of Ancient Villages’ Waterscape In Huizhou Area

In the contemporary age, the study of Ancient Villages in Huizhou area mainly focuses on historical and cultural value, architectual environment, evaluation, development and utilization of tourism resources, continuation and protection of landscape, site selection and layout of villages, ecological planning and plant dispostition as well. Additionally, the study on waterscape primarily includes water culture, quality evaluation methods, ecological planning and design application of waterscape. Much attention is paid to Shuikou garden, the space image of waterscape, and the relationship between behaviours and activities of human beings and waterscape space. However, there are not sufficient overall and comprehensive studies on waterscape characteristics of Ancient Villages in Huizhou area.As a consequence, based on conclusion and summarization of the investigation of representative villages in Huizhou area, this article is mainly focused on characteristic analysis of waterscape and divide the feature into immateriality and materiality. In addition, the paper discusses the meaning to modern planning and design as well as village protection accroding to the reason of waterscape characteristics’formation.Through field work and document analysis, this artical makes a brief intruduction of Huizhou Area’s related fundemental data, in which the scope of Huizhou, water culture background, the distribution of ancient villages and water resouces are included. Also, it describes the connection between different villages and waterscape on the scale of regional space during the summarizing of all the typical historical villages investigated. The connection between villages and water landscape is divided into three models:the water flow past close to the village, the water flow through the village and the combination of those two models. Intensively, this dissertation discusses the waterscape characteristic on the scale of village space in detail and divided it into corporality and incorporeity features. Through investigation, the waterscape of historical villages in Huizhou are morphological diversified, major steady and good quality. Meanwhile, the local spiritual culture, social lives and hydraulic technology of ancestors are well connected with its forming process.The conclusion comes out that characteristics of waterscape in ancient Huizhou villages are connected to the natural geography, Fengshui culture, Confucianism advocating and the notion of Huizhou merchants. And, the waterscape there are rich shaped, far-reaching concepted and harmonious patterned, the implications of which are plentiful connotaion and outstanding water-lay-out tecnology as well.
