The advanced communication technology as the foundation of the development of smart distribution area,it maintains the reliable operation of distribution area. With the continuous development of rural power,the increasing loads will bring new business communications which bring new challenges for the modern communication system.At present, most of the rural distribution area rely on the PLC and RS485 to transmit the signal,a few economically developed rural use GPRS.PLC and RS485 have many disadvantages, such as less bandwidth,poor transmission speed,poor signal quality and can not free network and the cost of using GPRS is high.At the same time,these three kinds of communications can not support video service, so we need to transform the way of communication in rural distribution area in order to improve the operational capacity of communication system.The wire communication existence disadvantage in building costs, scalability and free networking and so on, we analyze the application of wireless communication in distribution network. After comprehensive analyzing many different communication technologies, this paper presents a communication scheme based on WiMAX in smart distribution area.This scheme uses the WiMAX wireless communication technology to transmit information that is from the intelligent distribution area of each concentrator or distribution transformer monitoring terminal to the control center,the concentrator and the distribution transformer monitoring terminal transmit information through the low voltage PLC or RS485.This paper introduces the WiMAX communication network architecture,the effects of network,the hardware composition of base station system and the selection of WiMAX user terminal.In order to verify the performance of WiMAX communication,we set up two different scale models based on OPNET simulation software,the simulation results of comparing the two models: the delay of WiMAX communication in milliseconds and WiMAX has a good ability of network expansion.WiMAX has enough bandwidth resources to support the smart business though comparing other traditional communication system,and the transmission speed of WiMAX is much higher than the carrier communication.Compared with the3 G communication,WiMAX communication has a unique advantage in the field of fixed access,it is more suitable for the power system communication.
