A smart station, as an important part of Smart Grid and the hub of power transmission, has been undertaking the transfer of power transmission and distribution tasks. As a nervous system of substation, communication system management of substation automation platform which was built based on IED (Intelligent Electronic Device) such as electronic transformer, protection, measurement and control.At the same time, its communication performance will affect the substation security and stability directly. However, the planning and design aimed at network architecture of smart substation can only rely on the experience of designers and traffic flow estimation due to the lack of methods of analysis and research of smart substation at present. The operation and maintenance of communication network rely on their own "Best Effort" performance mainly. Reliability can be guaranteed only by relying on a large number of redundant devices because network optimal control strategy and mode adapting to power system is lacking, which will lead to waste of resources. Therefore, it is of great theoretical value and practical significance to study the influence of the above problems on the performance of intelligent substation communication network.The innovative achievements and main works of the thesis are as follows:(1)The basic connotation and key technologies of intelligent substation communication standard IEC61850 are studied.(2)The qualitative analysis were carried out for intelligent substation communication data flow of the source,type,function. Several mathematical models with the highest degree of close to the receiving and dispatching mechanism of data stream were build, according to the throughput characteristics of data flow in the timing performance and flow size and the introduction of the knowledge of the probability distribution. (3) The advantages and disadvantages of the star topology, ring topology, bus topology and mesh topology of Process Bus were studied and he key technologies of network congestion and flow control are discussed.(4)In this paper, the dynamic performance modeling and simulation method of the data flow in the Smart Substation Based on OPNET is proposed. A smart substation data flow dynamic simulation platform was established, through the analysis of the modeling of IEC61850 protocol, IED and switches, scene simulation, network structure key requirements and using OPNET model library, and custom modeling methods.
