With the increasing scarcity of coal, oil and other energy sources, wind as the fastest growing green renewable energy is attracted widespread attention currently. Wind gearbox is an important part of wind turbine generator system. It has the function riot only of power transmission between the blades and the generator but also increasing the speed to meet the requirements of the input speed of the generator. With the rapid development of wind turbine generator system, gear meshing performance and the useful life of the wind gearbox are all required higher and higher accordingly. Theoretically and practically, gear modification has been proven to be the most effective solution of vibration and noise reduction, extending the life. Therefore, the study of gear modification of megawatt wind gearbox is very necessary.In this study, the overall model of 2MW gearbox has been established by using Romax software. According to the simulation results of tooth load distribution contours to propose a new modification method and it is also based on the principle of gear modification. And finally the new method was validated based on the 2MW gearbox model which has been verified to be correct. The main tasks of this study are as follows:(1) The new gear modification method is based on the intensive study about the principle of profile modification and axial modification and professional gear analysis and design functions of Romax software. It is different from the drum-shaped modification method.(2) The new method is compared with drum shape modification method by Romax software and to verify the correctness of the new method. Finally the specific modification methods and modification amount about 2MW gearbox at physical environment have been identified.(3) Discussion on electrochemical machining technology of gear modification.
