With the populerize of cars, people put forward higher requirements for it, whilefulfill traveling function, comfortable has also been more attention. By reducing noise, carmanufacturers can provide a comfortable environment to customers.Gearbox is major source of automobile noise, it is an important way to achieve low noisecar that reducing auto gearbox noise. The reason of gearbox noise is produced in manyaspects, the main reason is gear mesh gear. Study found improve the accuracy of transmissionparts especially gear is very effective to reduce noise. However, high-precision oftransmission parts not only take some trouble in production, it also increase some cost.Therefore, the gears modification design is very effective to reduce the vibration and noise ofgear spin in automobile gearbox. Through the modification design, gear can effectivelycompensate elastic deformation and improve load distribution of gear surface to reducegearbox noise.This paper based on the characteristics of involute gear transmission and the theory ofinvolute gear tooth profile modification, research gear tooth profile modification techniquesfor a certain type of gearbox helical gear of a electric car company.First, using Pro/E to build parametric models of gearbox helical gear of electric car, andaccording to three kinds of methods to build helical gear models with different modification,then importing helical gear models into ANSYS Workbench and using software to contactfinite element analysis. Second, camparing the three kinds of modification methods which isequivalent stress, contact pressure and maximum contact stress to determine the bestmodification program of helical gear. Last, according to the best modification method ofhelical gear which will be taken into modification processing and noise tests. By camparingthe noise of gearbox helical gear before modification to after modification can verify themodification method is reasonable.By choosing certain modification method for helical gears modification can effectivelyimprove load distribution of helical gear surface and improve stability of gear transmission.
