Tailing pond is a kind of special hydraulic structures which is composed by starter dam and embankment. With the country’s huge demand for mineral resources, tailing ponds’ number and height increase rapidly. Most of the tailing dam in our country use upstream embankment method which would lead to dam breaking under seismic excitation. In the world, China is one of the most serious disaster countries. Therefore, it’s very important for further study on stability of tailings dam under earthquake force. In this paper, the main work and achieving results are listed as follows:(1) According to the secondary development of ABAQUS, the user subroutines interface is obtained, what is used to static stability analysis and dynamic stability analysis of tailings dam. They are Duncan-Chang E-B model and equivalent linear viscoelastic model.(2) According to the theoretical Basis of finite element-limit equilibrium method and FORTRAN, the user subroutines interface is obtained, what is used to calculating safety factor of tailings dam. Base on one tailings dam of Hebei province, the user subroutines interface is verified. The user subroutine can direct interface with ABAQUS which means that the user subroutine can calculate the dynamic safety factor after obtaining the stress in ABAQUS.(3)Base on one tailings dam of Hebei province, the dynamic stability analysis of tailings dam is calculated by choosing flood condition. Then the user subroutine of calculating dynamic safety factor is used and the results meet regulatory requirements which show the user subroutines interface has a strong practicability. It can be concluded from above results that the user subroutines interface has reliable results and high exactness. The user subroutine can calculate time-history curve of dynamic safety factor correctly and provide reference for the dynamic stability analysis of similar tailings dam.
