At present, as the expressway traffic organization of extension of the design is not perfect, this causes traffic congestion, traffic accidents and other problems. This paper takes Shi an expressway extension project, aiming at the above problems, the relevant studies conducted on traffic organization reconstruction and extension construction section optimization scheme.Through the analysis on the expansion of the transportation characteristics of expressway, the construction period traffic flow characteristics and changing trend of. Starting from the factors of closed the number of lanes, lane width and large car effect, calculation method for the extension of the capacity has been improved. Starting from the factors of closed the number of lanes, lane width and large car effect, calculation method for the extension of the capacity has been improved.According to the operation characteristics of the vehicle and extension construction influence on road traffic volume, vehicle speed and road closure, from the aspects of design of shunt of Shi an expressway. From the construction area, the volume of traffic, the road traffic capacity and the construction organization design point of view, it can design Shi an expressway traffic organization optimization on the different tectonic zone. Application of VISSIM simulation software has carried on the analysis to each construction part of traffic organization. Through calculation and analysis of traffic data, this can obtain the optimal scheme of traffic organization in Shi an expressway.
