Exterior joints with steel truss encased reinforced concrete beam and steel reinforced concrete (SRC) column is a new form structure constructed with SRC beam with encased steel truss and SRC column Results of preliminary research indicate that steel truss encased reinforced concrete beam and SRC column have good seismic behaviors. Based on the advantages of these two kinds of structure, the seismic behaviors of exterior joints of this new structure are experimental studied in this paper.Three fectors, which are shape steel strength, axial compression ratio and strength of angle iron’ web member, have been considered in this test. Low-cyclic reversed loading tests are carried out on 8 exterior joints from middle layer. Failure process under low-cyclic reversed loading is observed and recorded, the load-displacement hysteretic loops, skeleton, the load-intersection angle hysteretic loops and the load-strain hysteretic loops are tested. Then the seismic behaviors such as the ductility, energy dissipation capacity, bearing capacity degradation and stiffness degradation are investigated. The influence factor, such as shape steel strength, axial compression ratio and strength of angle iron’ web member, on the mechanical performance of joints is discussed.The results of this paper indicate that the joints that with steel truss encased reinforced concrete frame have good ductility and energy dissipation capacity. It has been proved that the joints of beam configured with steel and crossed angle and SRC column has good seismic behaviors.Based on the design experience and research results of this experiment, design method and construction measures of the exterior joints of this new type structure are analyzed. Performance based seismic design and construction measures are proposed. The relative content of the paper can be used in engineering application and to do more research.
