With the sustained development of C hina’s economic and social, the railway,an important public infrastructure,has got more and more attention. As a major railway network node, the smooth of hub transportation is obtained by the convergence of the traffic d irection. Therefore, the transport efficiency and the quality of the entire railway network depend largely on the competence performance and the transport organization of the marshalling station. Xin Fengzheng station is a railway hub in Xi’an province, which is not only the center of freight car flow for whole Northwest of C hina, but also one of the eight major railway hubs in China—the only marshalling station within the hub of Xi’an. Consequently Xin Fengzheng station plays a pivotal effect both in the hub of Xi’an and in the entire railway network.In this paper, the coordination between each subsystem in the marshalling station is studied based on the great impact on the marshalling station system being caused by the unevenness after trains’ speeding up.Firstly, the relevant knowledge of the car flow in marshalling stations is introduced, including the type of car flow, the flow’s organization procedure, and the influence of car flow constitutes to marshalling stations. Then, the calculation method of marshalling stations capacity in case of uneven arrival car flow is proposed, the system coordination and the coordination degree theory are also put forward. All of these could provide a theoretical basis for the research of marshalling system capacity coordination, of car flow and its capacity analysis, and of the transportation organization method of marshalling stations.In addition, the heavy and empty car flow in Xin Fengzhen station and the car flow connecting each direction are analyzed according to the data collecting from Xin Fengzhen station. Based on these analysis, the arriving, distribution and unevenness of car flow are calculated hour b y hour. Meanwhile, the Histogram analysis of car flow arrival regulation is worked out using the method of distribution hypothesis. Then the test of goodness of fit is conducted, focusing on all arriving car flow in the station. As a conclusion, the arriving car flow in the marshalling station obeys the normal distribution, which provides a quantitative basis for the further ability calculation.Furthermore, according to the above statistical analysis results, the equipment ability utilization of each subsystem in marshalling station is calculated using the ability formula with the condition of unbalanced car flow arriving. At the same time, the coordination ability and the coordination degree quality of each subsystem in Xin Fengzhen station are obtained by the coordination degree model based on normal distribution. Hence, the existing problems in the process of the transportation organization and the utilization of equipment capacity in Xin Fengzhen station are found. With regards to these problems, the enhancing and optimizing measures for the Xin Fengzhen station are put forward from the two aspects of its organization style and the improvement of the equipment utilization rate. And by the means of mathematical calculation, the rationality and the effectiveness of the above methods are proved which will have a certain guiding significance to strengthen the ability of Xin Fengzhen station.Finally, some results obtained during the study period are summarized in this paper, and the problems and shortcomings in the process of data collection and capacity calculation etc. are also found which set the objectives and directions for the future study.
