With the rapid development of science and technology of mechanical transmission, higher requirements have been proposed, such as more load carrying capacity, high transmission ratio, and compact structure and so on. This paper based on the basics knowledge of common involutes gear design, developed a new type of the Less-tooth gear of arc gear tooth profile and for part of the contents of the drive technology gave a more in-depth study.Firstly, this paper explored the basic engagement principles of the Less-tooth gears of arc gear tooth profile, deduced the tooth surface equation of whole tooth profile of the France face which has universal significance.Secondly, this paper deduced three conditions of the transmission deputy of Less-tooth gears of arc gear tooth profile which are meshing with each other to form conjugate tooth surface.Thirdly, through the analysis of motion characteristics and meshing characteristics of the Less-tooth gear of arc gear tooth profile, obtained the movement speed of engagement point which moves along with meshing line of the two Less-tooth gears; the line speed of the Less-tooth gear of arc gear tooth profile which is produced when engagement point moved along with the two Less-tooth gear of arc gear tooth profile’s contact line; peripheral speed of contact line of the Less-tooth gear of arc gear tooth profile and the relative sliding velocity of engagement point the Less-tooth gear of arc gear tooth profile.Fourthly, posing the design and calculation principles of the Less-tooth gear of arc gear tooth profile.Finally, based on the analysis of gear transmission of the Less-tooth gear of arc gear tooth profile gives a design example, and makes motion simulation and finite element analysis of gear strength for the design example. And the paper compared simulation and analysis results with the theoretical calculation results, thus proving the reasonableness of transmission of the Less-tooth gear of arc gear tooth profile.In summary, this paper provides a foundation from basic theory to motion simulation for the further research of the Less-tooth gear of arc gear tooth profile.
