The project of the ground monitor device for catenary and power supply equipment(C6 equipment) is one of important parts of the high speed railways monitor system for the power supply’s security(6C system). C6 equipment is the real-time online ground device that monitors the running status of catenary and power supply equipment. Through monitoring their operating parameters, it guides the maintenance for catenary and power supply equipment. Automatic tension compensation device is mainly set up to improve the conditions of the interaction of couple pantograph strip-catenary system and is one of the important devices to maintain stable operation of the catenary system. Once the compensation device breaks down, it will deteriorate the current-receiving condition of pantograph strip-catenary and cause potential safety hazard to traffic safety.In view of the lack of equipments that monitor the running status of automatic tension compensation device in C6 devices, a real-time online monitoring system of automatic tension compensation device is designed and developed. On the basis of studying thoroughly the requirements of the system, the design of the overall system is analyzed: Site substations acquire the b value of the compensation device and spot temperature value, and then transmit data to the monitoring center system by GPRS wireless network.This paper, firstly, introduces the design of the site substation, including both hardware and software parts. The design of hardware mainly includes the selection of main devices, the design of interface circuit, the communication module and power module, etc; the design of software can be divided into the main program of the system, data acquisition module and the design of communication module, etc. Secondly, the design of the monitoring center system is introduced. With C# and SQL Server 2008 database, the Datacenter Server and the Client are finished in the C/S system structure. Datacenter Server is mainly used to complete the design of the database. The Client can communicate with the Server and a good man-machine interactive interface is realized. After running under the laboratory simulation environment for several months, one site substation is installed at one end of the contact line section of certain high-speed railway. Currently, the system runs stably. It verifies the reliability of the system and the accuracy of the system function. The system conforms to the standards and norms related to the railway and completes the designed requirements of the system.On the basis of the data collected by the system and through analyzing the expansion amount of the contact wire, this paper puts forward a new method of measurement of contact wire abrasion and gives intensive research about new contact wire elongation, which has some reference significance to monitoring the catenary reliability and is useful for analyzing the contact wire’s service life, etc.
