China’s main power source of electricity comes from high energy thermal power, hence, improving the energy efficiency of coal-fired generating units, and achieving energy saving have become a huge challenge for China’s power industry. Based on the DSM project in Ningxia, the paper has mainly researched the calculation methods of the energy efficiency of coal-fired power generating units. Aiming at 660MW coal-fired generating units, the paper has respectively analyzed and calculated its energy efficiency by the heat balance method and exergy analysis method to research the scientific and effective nature of each method. First, taking the heat balance method and exergy analysis method as the theoretical basis, the paper has established appropriate computing mathematical model of coal-fired units, to evaluate its energy efficiency by its thermal efficiency and exergy efficiency; then taken the 660MW supercritical unit under actually running condition as example for research case, used the above two methods to calculate the performance of its boiler and steam turbine, based on the result of performance calculation evaluated its energy efficiency and provided diagnose of energy efficiency, to find out its potential of energy-saving.The purpose of this research is to provide enterprises with more effective, more scientific performance calculating methods, to supply a reference for enterprises to optimize the production process, helping them to develop a reasonable energy-saving program to improve enterprise management level of energy efficiency, and to improve economic efficiency of enterprises.
