In early modern times, affected by the development of national industry and commerce and the impact of foreign culture, Wuxi appeared a number of unique characteristic and temporal of “Sino-west integrative style” architecture, these buildings were the result of combination of traditional culture and the western culture, showing a unique characteristic and high architectural art value. However, because of the war of resistance against Japan and the rapid development of the city in recent years, many excellent of them were burnt, damaged or even removed, the existing situation is worrying. Through systematic carding for their types and characteristics, this dissertation tries to provide some theoretical and practical reference for the protection, repair and re-use of these architectural heritage.This dissertation takes Sino-west integrative style architecture in Wuxi in early modern times as the research object, based on the literature data collection and the analysis of the field research, carding the general situation of Wuxi Sino-west integrative style architecture. At the same time, use the research methods of example analysis, comparative analysis, induction and deduction analysis, etc, on the material level, on the one hand, research on these buildings’ types and evolution, discuss the different types’ characteristics and evolution path; on the other hand, research on these buildings’ space, modelling and construction patterns for a more precise positioning. On the nonphysical level, explore these buildings’ construction background, causes and cultural connotation, to guide the contemporary architectural practice how to handle the traditional culture and Western culture exchange correctly.The dissertation consists of five chapters. The first chapter mainly researches on the summary of the related study, makes sure its significance and content. The second chapter discusses general overview of the construction background, development history and preservation situation existing of Sino-west integrative style architecture in Wuxi in early modern times. The third chapter studies distribution situation and characteristics of these buildings, and explore the evolution of architectural function(diachronic research). The fourth chapter researches on their morphology characteristics from space, modeling and construction patterns(synchronic research). The fifth chapter summarizes the causes and cultural connotation of Wuxi Sino-west integrative style architecture.
