The Heating Supply Center Project (phase II) of comprehensive utilization project of Qinghai Salt Lake Group, which is a power plant built for supplying power to Chinese largest potash fertilizer factory, is located in Qarhan Salt Lake region of Golmud city in Qinghai province, with high altitude and heavy salt contamination. In order assure the long-term safety and reliable operation of power plant in such particular plateau and salt pollution environment, the insulation level of equipment and anti-corrosion ability must be highly required. The purpose and key of electrical design is correcting altitude of external insulation level of equipment, selecting equipment to meet the insulation coordination requirements, and taking proper measures to prevent salt corrosion of equipment and materials.For this design purpose, the existing problems and operation status of electric equipment was surveyed in this region, the calculation methods were analyzed based on several current standards and codes, the withstand voltage test data was verified and compared with equipment rated value, the technical parameters and selection suggestions of mature brand products were used for reference, and the technical and economic factors were compared for calculation analysis and results comparison.After verification and comparison, the appropriate altitude correction factor is selected and the insulation parameters of electrical equipments with various voltage, such as electric clearance, withstand voltage, creepage distance and safety clearance, etc., are confirmed so as to propose corrosion protection requirement, take reliable anticorrosion measures for electrical equipments and materials and finally determine the reasonable equipment type is selected and the electrical system design scheme.The final design result shows it succeeds in avoiding safety accident caused by inadequate insulation level or poor anticorrosion measures, solving the problem of investment and running cost increase cause by high insulation levels or excessive anticorrosion measures, so as to achieve the best combination of technical and economic performance and qualification in actual operation, which can be regarded as a reference for similar engineering electrical design.
