As a result of rapid changes of the current market and development in advanced forging technology, auto parts manufacturers must provide high-quality products at a lower cost to obtain the competitive advantage in the fierce competition market. With the resources as well as the current production conditions of such manufacturers taken into consideration, and based on the concept of "Lean Production", this paper studies the application of the machining process of warm-cold forming blanks, and layout of auto parts, with the hope that the flexibility and adaptability of auto parts production could be improved to better adapt to the rapidly changing market, the costs could be lowered, hence the manufacturers’ competitiveness in the market would be enhanced.Three typical kinds of warm-cold forming parts, spline shaft, piston and shift block, are studied in this paper, as follows:1. The objects of this study are brought up after summary of the development and characteristics of warm-cold forging technology, as well as the evolution and development of manufacturing process.2. A warm-cold forging production plan is offered after analysis of the techniques of such production and the characteristics of the three kinds of auto parts concerned.3. The specific machining processes for three kinds of spline shaft, piston and shift block are planned after analyzing their common features and selection principle of process parameters.4. Based on Lean Production (LP) and Group Technology (GT), the machining processes of piston are decomposed and reconstructed. A new kind of the workshop layout for machining piston is proposed.
