To enhance the life of the barrel and improve the manufacturing process of barrel,in this paper,the comparative analysis of the manufacturing process of a rifle barrel for the three new materials was made.The influence of quenching temperature and annealing temperature on the hardness of each material was obtained;The specific machining performance data of three kinds of materials in deep hole drilling and turning process were obtained;It has been concluded that the hardness of barrel material was not the main factor that affect the machinability of tube blank;In the process of precision forging,the influence of three kinds of materials on the parameters of precision forging was obtained.The forging force in precision forging was greatly affected by the hardness of materials.In order to evaluate the barrel utility performance of the three new materials,it is necessary to determine the effect of radial forging on the mechanical properties of barrel materials and the variation of barrel material properties after forging.The results show that the mechanical properties of the barrel material after forging have a great change,and the radial forging process made the barrel material anisotropy.The axial strength performance was better than lateral.The reason of anisotropy of barrel material was verified by metallographic test that the radial forging of the material produced the streamline organization in the axial direction.The influence of forging ratio on the forming of the rifling has been obtained using the rigid-plastic finite element method and the software ABAQUS.When the forging ratio was large enough,the stress at grove was greater than the strength limit of the material;When the forging ratio was too small,the forming of the land can not be formed,which all have an important impact on the use of barrel performance.At the same time,the residual stress distribution at forged rifling line has been simulated.After forging,there was stress concentration phenomenon in the boundary between land and grove.The residual stress at land was slightly larger than that at grove.The two-dimensional symmetry model of the barrel forging has established by using the finite element software,and the distribution of the residual stress along the radial direction was analyzed.The residual stress distribution on the outer surface of the new material barrel before and after the forging has tested by using the X-ray residual stress analyzer.The residual stress on the outer surface of the barrel after forging was mainly axial compressive stress,which was mainly because the forging of the hammer due to the axial flow of the material produced.After stress-relief annealing,the residual stress of the outer surface of the three kinds of material barrels could be eliminated as well.
