CRH1EMU train is taken as the research object to study on heat release rate (HRR) of train by using literature review, field research, numerical simulation and theoretical analysis method. The main work includes:Body structure and layout of train and parameters of Interior decoration materials for combustion performance are determined; In order to reveal the influence of ventilation condition and the number of passenger’s luggage on HRR,27fire scenarios are designed to obtain the HRR of first class car, coach car and dining car by using FDS based on the basic principles of fire burning. The results show that:1. The maximum HRR for three kinds of cars is very small, about2MW. The burning time is short when doors and escape windows are closed. Fire load such as the number of passenger’s luggage will have little impact on HRR when the ventilation condition is poor and the oxygen supply is insufficient. Type of fire is ventilation control.2. The maximum HRR for three kinds of cars is in the range of4-7MW. Combustion is sustained and stable. Flashover did not occur when doors are open, but escape windows are closed. The number of passenger’s luggage has greatly influenced on HRR, the bigger the fire load, the bigger the HRR when the ventilation condition is well and the oxygen supply is adequate. Type of fire is fuel control.3. The maximum HRR for three kinds of cars ranges from2to23MW, results vary widely when doors and escape windows are open. When ventilation condition is very well, if the fuel quantity is little, and placed relatively scattered, the combustion is similar to open air burning, type of fire is fuel control. Flashover did not occur. HRR is small and flame spread large area is difficult because the flow of air takes a lot of calories and the average temperature is lower in the carriage. If fuel quantity is big, and placing more densely populated, fuel is ignited quickly, the temperature will continue to rise and flashover will occur. Flame spreads from right to left car, fire area is sizable and HRR is bigger. 4. The maximum HRR of first class car is17.63MW, coach car is22.20MW and dining car is9.14MW. Results of the research provide reference for determining HRR of CRH1EMU train.
