Research On The Arcade Buildings In Haikou

Haikou is one of the important overseas Chinese hometowns of Hainan province with more than600southeast Asia colonial style arcade buildings in its old town.These buildings formed a scale, well-preserved commercial block of southeast Asia colonial style.Haikou arcade buildings were built in the late19th century.The architecture characteristic is a blend of Chinese and western architectural elements,southeast Asia colonial style and regional culture characteristics in Hainan.It not only carries profound cultural connotation, but also has great aesthetic value.Haikou arcade buildings is an important part of Hainan overseas Chinese hometown culture.It witnessed the history of Hainan people’s migration to the southeast Asia and reflects people’s lifestyle and social customs at that time, also it presents the unique charming feature of Haikou city.This paper take the Haikou arcade buildings as the research object.Through field investigation and related literature review and other methods of surveying and mapping, from the in-depth analysis of natural environment, cultural history, architectural form, decoration technology features and building ecological, it summarizes the characteristics of Haikou acrade buildings and unique local conditions and customs.At the same time,according to the existing condition of old streets,the paper puts forward the problems in tne process of protection and development.Also it explores the way of sustainable development in order to the continuation of haikou old acrade building streets.This paper is divided into six chapters:The first chapter is the introduction of overall idea, including the subject source, research content, purpose and significance, research methods, research status and related concept definition, etc. Chapter two is the brief introduction of Haikou natural geographical environment, social background and cultural characteristics, and it take the southeast Asia overseas Chinese as the breakthrough point to interpretate the origin of the southeast colonial styled old acrade building streets.The fourth chapter studies the decoration style and construction process of Haikou arcade buildings.Chapter five is the analogy analysis of the different characteristics between the Hainan local acrade buildings and that of the surrounding areas.The sixth chapter researches the ecosystem of the arcade building in Haikou.There are about62000words and179charts.
