Expansive soil includes various of hydrophilic minerals such as montmorillonite, influenced seriously by the dry-wet change. The channels built on the expansive soilfoundation will shrink when the slopes lose water, the cohesion among the soildecrease and the surface of the slope crack. However, when the slopes absorb water, the soil will expand and even slump. The main channel in middle route of the water transfer project from south tonorth is more than1200km. Restricted by the topography and geology condition, thechannels based on the expansion soil is30%of the total (326.85km). The safety of theconstruction work and operation in the expansion soil route is important to the wholeproject. At the same time, the study of the expansive soil is a worldwide topic. The permeability and stability of the channel slopes excavated on the expansivesoil is influenced by many undefined factors such as the conditions of different watertable in the channel slopes, water condition in the channel.Based on the main channel in middle route of the water transfer project fromsouth to north, this paper studies the stability of the channel slopes using the softwareFLAC-SLOPE to analysis. First, handle the factors which influence the stability of theslopes as random variable, building the mode of the slope stability, then using JC toanalysis the stability index and the influence of the factors towards the index. Basedon these, the paper will do finite-element analysis using the FLAC-SLOPE.Considering the seepage drainge canal slope could reliable and efficient,or failurhappens for a reason, condering the underground water level in the channel slopeunderground buried depth of1m and6m,Channel depth in condering the canalanhydrous, within the channel filled with water, the channel in the inland water deep1/3design depth three kinds of working condition.According to the results of the overall analysis and FLAC-SLOPE imitatecalculation, the paper reaches the summary such as the potential dangerous slipsurfaces form, the most disadvantage position about the instability of the slopes, theinstability range and the influence of the variation of the soil character index towards thestability. The results can provide suggestions to the project safety.
