As Urbanisation is widely spread in modern society, urban space frameworkand ecological environment are changing accordingly. People tend to pursue highquality lifestyle. As a result, green transportation with zero carbon emission hasbeen a welcoming topic in modern cities. The change and development oftransportation system has significantly influenced people’s choice. Cycling, thehealth traffic choice has gradually draw attention from the public. The Thesisdescribed public transport choices, assessed consideration and factors towardscycling, and finally conducted cost-benefits analysis of cycling project in moderncities.Encouraging cycling in cities has following benefits: meeting commutingdemands, saving budgets for both public and private sectors, improving land useefficiency, encouraging healthy lifestyle, and finally achieving sustainability. Afterthorough analysis, the thesis put forward a conceptual plan of cycling system andput it in a specific context, Binhai new district, Dongdaihe, to conduct a case study.In the case study, strategic plan and urban design for urban cycling system has beendiscussed. The proposed cycling system has fully considered the public spacecharacters, landscaping, urban traffic system in Dongdaihe and formed a individualcycling framework to ensure commuting and recreation demands.
