Three-dimension laser scanning technology is a new measurement technique in thefield of surveying and mapping at present, and the traditional method of ancientarchitecture mapping has been changed. The spatial information and morphologicalcharacteristics of ancient buildings can be gotten,3D data model can be generatedquickly and accurately. The first-hand information can be obtained and archivalinformation plays a substantial role in promoting the protection of ancient architecture. The research aims at mapping field data collection of ancient architecture on thebasis of3D laser scanner, and a series of experiment projects about the data collectionof ancient architecture are designed. The scanning results are studied and analyzed, Theresults are concluded of the laws and principles on the number of station and target, thedistance of the accuracy of data collection for the outside scan results. The researchesaim at the redundant data and blunders in the original point cloud data and the progressof point cloud data processing. The automatic exclusion of the point cloud data grosserror in programming way is realized, providing a convenient way of data processing. In view of complexity and diversity of3D modeling method, a comparison and analysisof several modeling approach and a research of method of building models based onNURBS are made. Some analysis and evaluation of the work on the entire ancientarchitecture mapping errors were carried out, finally raising some method of eliminatingand weakening errors as well as the summary about the precision tolerances for errorswith using3D laser scanner. A series of data acquisition, data processing, modelestablishment and texture map on ancient architecture as well as the3D models withtexture image of ancient architecture are acquired. The requirement of ancientarchitecture survey by numerical analysis and model evaluation are achieved as a result. The research results show that the practical engineering method and conclusiondiscussed in the paper has a certain guiding significance on the survey of ancientarchitecture. It has proved that the3D laser scanner has a broad application prospect inthe survey of ancient architecture.
