Modern mapping technology has entered the information era, information technology surveying and mapping technology’s advantages and characteristics significantly worked in multi-disciplinary comprehensive application of technology which basis as computer technology, photovoltaic technology, network communications technology, space science, information science, for the technical core as the global positioning system (GPS), remote sensing (RS), geographic information systems (GIS). The diversification of its products can meet the needs of different industries on multi-objective, in multi-field and multi-scale. Information technology mapping technology is widely used in various fields of national economy, and it plays a key role in various industries. This paper focuses on three-dimensional laser scanning,3D modeling, geographic information database and system construction of advanced information mapping technology in the protection of ancient architecture. In recent years, these mapping technology mentioned above atract more and more attention, is becoming a hot topic of research both at home and abroad. For instance, when survey and map of the ancient buildings, the three-dimensional laser scanning technology can scan the physical building without contact, meanwhile, the information of the three-dimensional world is quickly converted into a computer which can process the data to avoid the unnecessary loss of building data by man-made acquisition, maximize the retention of the original information of the building, effectively guaranteed the absolute security of the ancient buildings. With features and advantages of fast, non-contact and real time, high accuracy, initiative, all-digital, it has a direct impact on the use of benefits and costs of the data.On the basis of Summarizing the existing literature and research findings, this paper in connection with the planning requirements for protection of ancient architecture, mained as surveying and mapping technology of3D laser scanning,3D modeling, GIS, researches on the following aspects:analysis integration of inside and outside of the industry, the development of process on digital to the information mapping technology, application methods and processes of advanced information mapping technology in the protection of ancient building. The paper also analyses some actual projects such as "cultural relics protection units, geographic information systems", the "Green Road three-dimensional interactive display system" in a county-level city. The project completed the city’s ancient architecture of2D and3D vector data collection by using a variety of information technology mapping technology, the Heritage relational database and geographic information systems, to achieve the city’s cultural relics protection units of information management, and the big scene in the SKYLINE typical ancient buildings of three-dimensional modeling data organization and interactive displays. Thorugh project case analysis, this paper described the application of information technology mapping technology project implementation process in detail and points out some technical problems to be solved. In the final, the paper predicts the future of the application and development of information technology mapping technology:on the basis of surveying and mapping data, on the support by construction, thematic, water conservancy, public security, a mechanism for ongoing maintenance and updating of the data will be established. By using network, computers, GIS technology, spatial geographic information public service platform will be formed, and even a digital city, inter-departmental sharing of geospatial information resources services will also be shaped.
