Study On The Landscape Characteristic Of Nayun Ancient Town From Mengiian County

Nayun ancient town of Menglian is located in the southwest of YunnanProvince, it was built in1289.It was the political and cultural center of Dai people inMenglian County, which is a traditional settlement formed by the interaction betweennatural environment and human behavior. It is famous for the Chieftain feudal rule of Dainationality. Based on the related theories of landscape morphology o f traditional villages,and through field research of Nayun ancient city’s landscape form，architecture featuresand spatial layouts, analysis the ancient landscape morphological characteristics and theproblems existing in the development process during the recent years, put forwardprotection and development measures based on the current situation of Nayun, and thefollowing points can be concluded:(1) From the perspective of site selection, Nayun is different from the other habits ofDai villages along the river; the site-selection and layout of Nayun ancient city are welladapted to the natural environment, considering threaten factors such as natural disasters,political coup and war, The Dai people make maximally use of the existing terrain, andbuilt the city on the hillside, back against the Jin mountain, on the right side of the Nanleiriver, control of the Menglian basin, reflect the location idea of keeping in line with localconditions and the feudal hierarchical.(2) From the perspective of layout, Nayun obeys the law of nature, makes changes inaccordance with requirements of terrain conditions and social developments. From thescattered pattern into a linear distribution along the main road, and since the incomingand popularization of Theravada Buddhism, from linear layout form developed intonetwork layout, finally form the three inner cities two villages layout features; Thelayout system follow the rules of spatial growth, flexible freely and friendly.(3)From the perspective of the landscape elements, the street system, drainagesystem conform to the topography, like an net covers the whole city; the street nodescreate different psychological feeling to a person; the core of village, the Patron saint ofvillage, The ancient Wells are the carriers of religious culture, the modeling is exquisite,beautifully decorated, reflected the sacred status in city; Unique natural environmentmakes the Plants grow well and formed rich traditional region characteristic. All kinds oflandscape elements are sending out the unique charm of landscape.(4) From the perspective of the architecture, state building and religious Buddhisttemple represents the high achievement in the field of architecture of Dai people; they have unique local appearances, appropriate sizes and flexible functions. Because of thelimitation of terrain conditions, the folk houses were arranged on the wayof－and L.The ancient city’s internal architecture style embodies the local ethnic characteristics andreligious symbols.(5) Nayun has distinct landscape features, all kinds of landscape elements are kept ingood condition. They have relatively high historical conservation value, architecturalaesthetic value and scientific research value.
