The rapid development of electric power system for grid stability and power quality put forward higher request. Timely reasonable reactive power compensation and adjustment of power is the important means and methods which improve electricity environment and save electric energy.Static Var Generator (SVG) as one of the the representative of the new reactive control devices with its large capacity and response speed piece, output voltage harmonic content is lowly, the reactive power compensation range, adjustable, advanced control means etc, has got the world power attention. The aim of this paper is to study the merits of several control strategy on SVG device and provide theoretical reference for real application.This paper introduces the basic principle of the Static Var Generator (SVG) and discusses the instantaneous reactive power theory with application in SVG. It puts forward the detection algorithm, including p-q detection algorithm、ip-iq detection algorithm and based on the dq0detection algorithm rotating coordinate system. This paper also introduces the current indirect control and current direct control method for SVG It researches the simulation of8control method based PI, hysteresis comparison method and triangular wave comparator method. And it put forward the voltage current double closed loop control method. In the MATLAB environment, it build the system simulation diagram using SIMULINK tool box and further verified this SVG control mode of correctness, effectiveness and superiority. According to the requirements of control SVG, it detailed introduces the structure of the SVG controller based on the dsPIC30F5015, designs the hardware and software of SVG control system, and realizes the true sense of the digital control.
