Large construction structure would be damaged because of corrosion, collision as well as environmental loads during service period. With the increase of structure service period, the damage is accumulated gradually, which will result in the attenuation of structure resistance and the reduction of security, serviceability and durability of structures. Therefore, it is valuable in practice to evaluate the safety performance of structures without affecting the use of them. In this paper, a type of damage detection method is used to test against the model, which is a five-story reduced-scale composite wall structure tested on the shaking table. The main contents are concluded as follows through the analysis results of numerical simulation and shaking table:(1)Firstly, in order to study the application of wavelet analysis in damage identification, a finite element model of a three-story frame structure is established. The simulation results show that wavelet analysis is helpful to some extent to identify the damage location. Then comparisons of different identification indexes and other parameters are given to discuss their influence on damage identification results.(2)Secondly, a finite element model of composite wall structure is established. Its parameters and scales are the same with that of the shaking table model. The results of numerical simulation show that the method can correctly detect the position and the happen time of the damage.(3)At last, a method called energy curvature changing rate method is proposed to identify the damage location of the five-story composite wall structure. The comparison of simulation results with measured ones showed that the damage could be accurately detected in terms of spikes extracted directly from the measured data.
