The river reach from the Fushan to Laozishan is the estuary reach of the HuaiheRiver to the Hongzehu Lake. Along the estuary reach of the Huaihe River, the slope ofriverbed is negative. Before entering the Hongzehu Lake, the Huaihe River is braidedchannel. In this paper, the digital elevation models have been developed based on theterrain data measured in1992a,2001a and2010a respectively. The changes in riverbeddeformation have been assessed using the developed digital elevation models. Theresults indicate that the main channel erodes clearly while the flood plain keeps stablealong the river reach from the Fushan to Hongshantou. And erosion or deposition takesplace slowly along the braided channel. It deposits slightly from1992a to2001a buterodes slightly from2001a to2010a along the river reach from the Hongshantou toXuyi.Erosion or deposition appears when the sediment transport capacity is not equal tothe inflowing load. Therefore, it is helpful to analysis the water and sedimentcharacteristic. In this paper, hydrological factors such as water surface slope, fluvialfacies coefficient and roughness coefficient are analysed on the basis of thehydrological data from Lutaizi Hydrological Station. And then flow-sedimentrelationship formula has been built and the dominant discharge has been calculated.Numerical sediment model is one of the most important means of assessing riverbeddeformation. On the foundation of the results previously, an one dimensionalnumerical sediment model has been developed and calibrated in this paper.
